Pilbara Supplier Summit 2026: Keeping Pilbara Spend in the Pilbara

On Friday 4 September, 50 local and regional businesses, tier 1 operators, government and community packed out the Newman Hotel for the second Pilbara Supplier Summit. Here’s what CORE delivered, and what’s already come out of it.

CORECORE Innovation Hub·20 October 2026

CORE started the Pilbara Supplier Summit with one simple idea: keep Pilbara spend with Pilbara businesses. Put local suppliers face to face with the people who buy, and good things happen.

Two years in, that idea is firmly on the regional calendar. Co-hosted by CORE Innovation Hub and the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), this year’s Summit brought small business, major industry, government and community into the same room (and spilling out into the Outdoor Expo Area) for a full day of connecting, learning and doing business.

The day by the numbers

One day in Newman. A packed floor.

50Local and regional exhibitors on the floor
139People registered to attend, plus walk-ins on the day
$53KIn cash sponsorship secured
5Sessions, plus a Ministerial Address

The Ministerial Address was delivered by Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Minister for the Pilbara, with attendance from Kevin Michel MLA.

“You’re going to need a bigger venue.”The number one piece of feedback from the day. Not bad for a day in Newman. We’ll take that.

What CORE brought to the table

The Summit is a true partnership with NCCI, and CORE brought the Pilbara network, the program and the polish. CORE National Lead Renee Hakendorf opened the day, and Newman Hub Lead Lou Terry co-MC’d alongside NCCI’s Sarah Stampfli.

Behind the scenes, CORE delivered:

Building capability, not just connections

The program

A Summit full of handshakes is great. A Summit where suppliers walk away better equipped to win work is better. This year’s speakers delivered on that.

Tamara Bin Amat
Market to the Pilbara

Tamara Bin Amat

Managing Director, Impact Digi

Tamara kicked things off drawing on more than a decade of building a regional agency in Karratha. Her four pillars for local suppliers: build relationships, be ready before the opportunity lands, prove you’re local, and show your community value.

Relationships open the door. Marketing backs you up.”
Kate Molinari
Network Like a Boss

Kate Molinari

Founder, Striide

Kate brought 15+ years of media leadership to the session, and sent the room out ready to work the Expo floor.

Become an interested person, not just an interesting one.”
Gry Stene
Work Smarter with AI

Gry Stene

Working with AI since 1986

Gry has been working with AI since 1986, so when she says start with the challenge, not the tool, it’s worth listening. Her session gave local businesses a practical, human-first way in.

The goal is not to sound like AI. The goal is to use AI to sound more clearly like you.”
Ben Stangoni
Small business support

Ben Stangoni

Small Business Development Corporation

Ben walked suppliers through the free advice and support on offer for regional small business, then stuck around for one-on-ones on procurement, contracts and capability statements.

Panel

Building Local Capability in Newman

Featuring the Shire of East Pilbara, Pilbara Development Commission and NCCI, the panel tackled one of the biggest things holding local suppliers back: industrial land, with updates on Newman’s Light Industrial Area and plans for a future General Industrial Area.

From handshakes to quotes

The real measure of the Summit is what happens after the sundowner wraps up. A few weeks on, the early signs are strong:

Work on the table

CORE member Ngurra Resource Group has been asked to quote on two jobs as a direct result of connections made on the day.

Leads for partners

Event partners came away with new connections, leads and opportunities.

More than networking

One theme keeps coming up in follow-up calls: the Summit isn’t just seen as a good networking opportunity, it’s opening real commercial opportunities.

Momentum for 2027

Partners are already putting their hands up to be involved next year, before planning has even kicked off.

Lou is still working through follow-up calls with every exhibitor, and we can’t wait to share more wins as they land.

Part of a bigger picture

The Summit doesn’t exist in isolation. For five years, CORE’s Newman Innovation Hub has given Pilbara entrepreneurs and small businesses direct access to skills, networks and opportunity. Alongside BHP and the WA Government, CORE also delivered the Made in the Pilbara grant program, putting $500,000 into the hands of 11 local businesses and creating more than 40 local jobs and 14 apprenticeships.

The Pilbara Supplier Summit is the next step in that story: a place where local capability gets seen, backed and hired.

Thank you

Made possible by our partners

Events like this don’t happen on goodwill alone. A huge thank you to our co-host NCCI, and to our sponsors and partners: BHP, Fortescue, CSI Mining Services, Local Buying Foundation, Shire of East Pilbara, Pilbara Development Commission, Spick & Span, Regional Development Australia Pilbara, AHPC, Radium Capital and the Small Business Development Corporation. Special thanks to the Newman Hotel for their hospitality on the day.

And to every exhibitor who rolled up, set up and showed up for local business: this one’s yours.

See you in 2027
