Newman Business Excellence Awards - See the photos and find out who took home the CORE Energy, Mining & Resources Award!

The Newman Chamber of Commerce & Industry Business Excellence Awards is recognised as the most prestigious annual event on the Newman calendar - with the Awards celebrating the achievement of both business enterprises and individuals in the Shire of East Pilbara.

Local businesses are the focus of the Newman economy and the Newman Business Excellence Awards offered a significant opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and successes. And, this year CORE Innovation Hub got to experience first hand the level of support and sense of community in the Newman region.

Renee Hakendorf (from the Adelaide Hub), Renu Kannu (from the Perth Hub) and Natalie Jones (Newman Hub Lead) were very proud to attend the Awards night as Sponsor of the Mining, Energy & Resources Award - presenting a very large cheque worth $5000 in prize money to the winner.

Joining CORE on the night was Rory Bannon and his wife Shireen Bannon from Magellan Power. Darren Morris from Wonbon Supply and Logistics also joined us, along with Kiki, Lab Manager at Techenomics.

The Awards

Certainly, the highlight of the night was the opportunity for the team to present the Mining, Energy and Resources Awards. While we had many great companies nominated in the category, there could only be three finalists and one winner.

Without further ado, CORE is so pleased to share with the broader ecosystem the finalists for the Award:

3rd place: Marteq Energy

2nd place: Desert to Coast Training

But the winner of the Mining, Energy and Resources Business Award for 2022 was:

MARK KEOGH TRAINING

Mark and his sons Bradley and Luke have been in the Pilbara for 8 years, 6 years in Newman.

Mark Keogh Training was formally set up 4 years ago and is predominantly run by Mark and Sheree Humphreys. Sheree and Mark are also supported by a pool of local residents who come on-board on a casual basis when needed. The business has grown from being run from a small donga on the driveway to now Mark owning his own business premises in Newman and even more expansion on the horizon.

Mark Keogh Training represents 7 RTO's offering training in First Aid from CPR to Occupational First Aid, 4WD, Recovery and Towing Training, Mental Health First Aid and a host of workplace safety training courses. Over 60 courses delivered everywhere from Perth to Broome.

Mark Keogh Training works extensively with RIO, FMG and Sodexo delivering First Aid, Fire Safety, 4WD, Bus and Truck 4WD, Mental Health First Aid and Workplace Safety Training. They also work with contractors to mine sites to help enable staff to get onsite and perform their business contracts. This sometimes involves running emergency courses for local Newman businesses after hours to ensure they can return to site.

Mark was presented with a $5000 cheque on behalf of the CORE Innovation Hub team.

CORE is excited to be a part of this community, and for our business hub in Parnawarri to further add value to the people, businesses and communities.
