Newman Hub Update
End of financial year is often a busy time in most organisations and this year, CORE was no expectation - except it wasn’t just tax time keeping us busy.
We held our 5th Birthday Celebration on the last Friday of June and were lucky enough to toast 5 exceptional years of CORE with more than 100 of our valued partners, members and guests. And then, just days later Perth entered a lockdown. Like most of us, for a brief moment many of our plans, including the rollout of our Newman Hub, were put on hold.
However, we are very pleased to report that with the lockdown lifting, and borders between WA and SA reopening, we are back on track with the project and looking forward to getting stuck into the next phase of planning.
Prior to lockdown, our National Innovation Hub Lead, Renee Hakendorf, visited Newman to meet with BHP team and scout sites for the highly anticipated shopfront. Along with attending the Newman mine site, Renee attended the business breakfast hosted by the Pilbara Development Commission and the Newman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and was able to meet with various community members to discuss the project and community needs.
During her time in Newman, Renee was also able to visit a number of sites for the new Innovation Hub and we have since shortlisted a handful of potential premises. We will look to finalise plans once we have conducted our co-design session.
Speaking of, we are so pleased that as border restrictions have now eased, the co-design session that was scheduled for early July, will now go ahead in the first week of August in both Newman and Perth. Once we have confirmed a time and location, we will send a formal invitation to interested parties. If you haven’t yet registered for the co-design or are interested to know more about the project, simply click here.
