CORE Start Round One 2022: A Recap

It is hard to believe but Round One of CORE Start is already coming to a close! As we enter the final few weeks and our participants prepare for CORE Connect: Ideas Night on July 28, we thought we would do a recap of what our entrepreneurs have learned and what the program has covered this round.

CORE Start is a 12 week entrepreneurial development program helping energy and mining start ups and small businesses further validate their ideas, find new or alternative avenues for growth and scale and ultimately help them succeed in an often challenging industry.

Round One saw five companies; Team Agency, Kara Ged, S5 System, NGMX and Ezi Fix Condition Monitoring, accepted into the program, each with their own unique challenges and opportunities.

12 Weeks. 4 Modes of Learning.

CORE Start focuses on practical and experiential learning. It is not a deep dive into the theory or best practice of how to grow a business, but a hands-on, solution-focused program that lets participants learn from industry leaders and entrepreneurs that have gone before them.

ONE-ON-ONE WITH AN ADVISOR

Our five founders were partnered with an industry expert advisor giving them the chance to work one-on-one with someone dedicated to helping them identify opportunities and solve challenges. The CORE Start Advisors in Round One included Jasmin Ward, Nick Saunders and Bill Withers - all highly seasoned entrepreneurs and mentors with expertise in both business and energy and mining.

GROUP MENTORING

Across the 12 weeks, CORE Start also featured a number of group mentoring sessions. These sessions were facilitated by a cross section of the energy and mining ecosystem and even included some CORE Start graduates who were able to share insights on how they were able to use the program to help further grow their companies.

These interactive sessions served as way to seek peer support and validation. Our entrepreneurs were encouraged to bring to the table real issues they might be facing and were given structured feedback and frameworks to help solve some of these challenges.

CASE STUDIES

The entrepreneurs were also given the opportunity to take part in exclusive Case Study sessions with Roborigger and program supporter, Oracle. In these sessions the founders were able to hear first hand how fellow entrepreneurs successfully grew their business, the journey from start up to scale and the trial and tribulations that come with it.

It also gave our founders an opportunity to ask questions and even get feedback on ideas related to their own businesses. These informal sessions were a fantastic way to bring together industry and innovators and explore the latest emerging trends in energy and mining.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Giving our founders a well rounded learning experience, CORE Start also features two professional development workshops. The first a public speaking workshop aimed at helping our founders to articulate and deliver their key messages as succinctly as possible in way that is engaging to their audience. The second workshop was run by Wrays Intellectual Property Lawyers that aimed to give founders a better understanding of the legalities and considerations around Intellectual Property and how they can best protect both themselves and their business.

What’s Next for CORE Start Round One?

The culmination of CORE Start is Ideas Night! An exciting live event to be held in Perth on July 28. Each entrepreneur will take part in a 3-minute round-robin pitch-style discussion on their technology and the problem it solves, and how it contributes to the future of energy and mining.

Our leading panel of industry experts will provide feedback to each of the entrepreneurs and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and provide comment on new and exciting companies and technology.
