Entrepreneur Alex Bertram joins CORE Start as Mentor

Alex Bertram is a proud father of two, entrepreneur and technologist and until recently was also the Digital Transformation lead for BHP’s South Flank Operations, which will account for approximately a third of BHP’s iron ore production once ramped up to full capacity.

Alex brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his mentoring role with CORE Start, with a well-rounded understanding of the business of mining.

He held a variety of roles at BHP working with teams in a diverse range of fields; from investment evaluation to construction, from prefeasibility studies to equipment autonomy, technology development to portfolio management, from project delivery to product management to name a few.

Alex is also the co-inventor and product owner for the patented Dash Maintainer Tools which allows front line personnel to securely collect data from machinery remotely, avoiding the potential risks associated with manually checking dials or taking readings from heavy mobile equipment such as trucks, excavators, drills and ‘dozers.

Dash Maintainer Tools won a number of awards including:

• 2021 CORE Hot 30 Awards

• BHP’s 2020 Safety Excellence Award

• Finalist for AustMine 2021 Miners Innovation Award

In addition to his role at BHP, Alex is also an Industry Secondee at Microsoft, working together with world-leading technologists on sustainability initiatives and empowering front-line industrial workers with modern technologies.
