In partnership with Austrade and Landing Pad, this two-day innovation exchange offers you an intimate and immersive event for Australian start-ups who have successfully scaled their business in Australia and are ready and looking to scale globally with a focus on the US and North America.

Held across two days, this free innovation exchange will see an impressive selection of guest speakers and advisors with hands-on, lived experience of founding and scaling companies in the US and North America share insights, case studies and practical tips to help you plan, grow and succeed.

David Brown

Trade Director, San Francisco Landing Pad, Austrade

As manager of Austrade's San Francisco Landing Pad, David provides direct market entry services to export-ready Australian companies including access to the renowned innovation and startup ecosystems in the Bay Area and across the US.

Working direct with Landing Pad participants David is able to assist with one-on-one business development, including identifying and targeting customers; accessing angel investors, venture capital and other potential sources of funding; introducing local government agencies offering support programs for new businesses; advising on how to leverage networks in market to connect with peers, decisions makers, influencers and other stakeholders; referrals to professional services and advisory firms and advising on how to negotiate the local business culture.

Steve Elias

Principal at RSM Australia

Based in Perth, Steve is a Principal in the Tax Services division providing specialist R&D tax incentive consulting services. Since 2007, Steve has provided R&D tax advice to a range of industries across Australia.

Steve joined RSM during 2012, continuing his R&D tax specialisation after spending 5 years as a member of the R&D tax incentive group at a big four accounting firm.

Steve’s R&D tax incentives career has seen him gain extensive experience preparing and lodging R&D Tax Incentive claims for a wide range of industries including Technology / IT, Mining, Agriculture and Engineering disciplines, assisting first-time R&D claimants with commencing, growing and sustaining annual R&D claims, and assisting companies with R&D management upon entity consolidations; along with working with numerous multi-national companies to maximise their R&D claims for cross-border R&D activity.

Tim Stainlay

Head of Strategic Development - Emesent

Tim has over 16 years of startup operating and investing experience across a variety of consumer and industrial sectors in Australia, Asia and North America.

Early in his career, Tim spent 7 years as an Investment Manager at Exto Partners, a Sydney-based venture capital firm where he led investments in a number of startups in the industrial safety, education, technology and health sectors. He later co-founded consumer goods company, Marion’s Kitchen, and led the international expansion of the brand into North America. 

Upon returning to Brisbane in 2018, Tim worked as a management consultant for KPMG, advising Government and industry bodies on how they can better support the startup ecosystem.

Tim has had several board and board observer roles and advises companies on international growth, commercial strategy and capital raising.

He is currently Head of Strategic Development for Emesent - a high-growth Brisbane company using robotics, automation and machine learning to deliver new data-driven insights for critical assets across the mining and industrial sectors.

Mike Kyriacou

Co-Founder, Strattica Labs

Mike Kyriacou is a serial entrepreneur with 15+ years’ experience building, investing in, negotiating and advising technology ventures.  Mike has recently returned from 11 years in Silicon Valley building and advising startups, accelerators and venture capital funds.  

In 2016 Mike cofounded Strattica Labs, a San Francisco Bay Area FinTech, which applies breakthrough AI to generate actionable, expert-level insights for any US business.  The venture is headed by the ex-CEO of American Express Bank in Europe and has a growing pipeline of institutions which themselves total $120Bn in assets under management.

He is a Berkeley Industry Fellow, an Expert-in-Residence at Bootstrap Labs (San Francisco Applied AI Venture Fund), is on the advisory board of Santa Clara University Business School, and is an Innovation Bay WA Ambassador.

Jordan Gruber

Robotics Specialist & Founder of Frontier Microscopy

Jordan Gruber is a Mechatronic Engineer and CEO and Founder of Frontier Microscopy,

Frontier Microscopy was founded in 2016 in Adelaide the now international startup is focused on developing robotics and AI solutions to better our world. Their current mission is to improve the asbestos monitoring process through automating microscopy and improving air monitoring workflow.

Jordan is passionate about applying his technical expertise to reduce human exposure to airborne asbestos with the aim to save lives and equip scientific and commercial laboratories with MARVIN, Frontier Microscopy’s platform to easily automate tedious optical microscope analyses.

In addition to advisory roles and volunteer roles across the global, Jordan is also alumni of both Startmate and more recently UC Berkeley's SkyDeck accelerator program.
