NASA International Space Apps Challenge Blasting Off on October 2!

The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is back this year.

This exciting event brings together diverse groups of people including coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists, and technologists for a global, virtual hackathon. During a period of 48 hours, participants from around the world will come together to create virtual teams and solve challenges using NASA’s open-source data.

Each year, the challenge is structured around a theme. Being the 10th annual event, the theme for 2021 is “The Power of Ten.” Space Apps, which started in 2012, has now become the largest global hackathon. While NASA provides awards to the top projects (last year a Perth team was awarded one!!), Space Apps is all about collaboration! Working in teams over the weekend, the hackathon aims to foster a sense of collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, generate and encourage an interest in Earth and space science and exploration, raise awareness of NASA data around the world and encourage the growth and diversity of the next generation of scientists, technologists, designers, engineers, artists, etc.

In partnership with Space Hub Perth, CORE Innovation Hub has been hosting The Space Apps Challenges for six years now. Hear from our Local Lead, Conrad Pires and FrontierSI’s Brenton McAtee on why you should join the challenge this year.

The challenge is set to blast off on Saturday October 2 running through till Sunday October 3. Throughout the event you will work in teams, solving as many problems as you can. You will work alongside mentors and have access to NASA data sets to help you.

Registration for the hackathon is free. Once you have registered, you will need to find a team. If you need help with this, our team can connect you with the right people. Just email spacehubperth@gmail.com once you have registered.

You can find out more about the hackathon and register here.
