Rio Tinto Integrated Operations Team Day 2021

Earlier this month, Renu Kannu, our Business Engagement Lead was lucky enough to attend Rio Tinto’s Integrated Operations Team Day at Optus Stadium in Perth.

The annual division-wide event was designed by the Rio Tinto team to enrich the staff understanding of the business and to strengthen bonds within the teams. Hayley Mitchell, Integrated Operations Manager for Rio Tinto said,

This is an opportunity for us to give back to the team, expose them to exciting things happening across the business and really to motivate them for next steps.

The agenda for the day was built around six themes: Safety, Mindset and Leadership, Interactive Team Building, Innovation Station, Rio Now and in the Future, and Where Rio Fits in the Value Chain.

The Integrated Operations team has close to 700 people, based in Perth – performing a number of different roles in various locations and over a number of different shifts. Hayley highlighted these team days are important for morale building being one of the key times they are able to bring the whole team together.

Beyond the opportunity for their staff, the team day also provides an exciting opportunity for Rio Tinto suppliers to showcase their technology or product, with suppliers from across Australia invited to exhibit their technologies.

It is helping to highlight what’s possible, and what’s out there. It gives our staff insight into how current technologies can make a massive impact on the job that they are doing, said Hayley.

Among the suppliers present were also a large number of CORE Innovation Hub members and program alumni including: Razor Labs, Camp Connect, Rig Technologies, Chironix, Nexxis, Space Angel and Raptor Tech.

At CORE Innovation Hub, we continuously look for ways to drive value and identify opportunities for our member companies - and this is just one example. Being a part of Rio Tinto’s team day was a fantastic experience for all of us, and it was exciting to see the range of technology innovation being applied and solving real world problems.

The CORE team would like to say a huge thank you to Rio Tinto for having CORE take part, we can’t wait for next year!
