CORE Connects with Rob Daw, Chief Innovation Officer at Hexagon Mining

Rob Daw is Hexagon Mining’s Chief Innovation Officer, helping to deliver on Hexagon's core value of innovation, leading technology strategy and development to empower customers' autonomous future.

He brings extensive mining experience, providing efficient, reliable, and effective solutions. He is passionate about partnering with clients to achieve operational excellence - all underpinned by a strong analytical, practical, and methodical approach to solving problems.

As Chief Innovation Officer of the Mining Division at Hexagon, Rob manages the Technology and Innovation Group and is the Executive Manager of Autonomy in Mining. His key area of focus is the acceleration of Autonomous Drill Solutions, and successful delivery of the MRL solution

When it comes to industry challenges, Rob sees a number of opportunities, most notably - chippaggedon. The shortage in technology components in the world is challenging companies to think differently in the way we deliver solutions.

Within the mining industry, Rob highlights the universal human resourcing issue being experienced across the board, “the shortage of experienced personnel to assist in developing, delivering and supporting world leading technology solutions into the mining industry is tough”.

Rob knows the adoption of technology in the industry has accelerated over the last 20 years. “It can be clearly seen in the growth of the business that have adopted technology vs. haven't.”

“We are now seeing a green tech wave. This is another great opportunity. It has been driven not necessarily by the mining industry itself, but by the more sophisticated investors demanding change. It goes to show the various levers that can drive technology change and adoption.”

With innovation being one of Hexagon’s core values, Rob is tasked with a very important role within the company. When asked what inovation means to Hexagon, Rob replied “We invest heavily in innovation to meet our customers' ever-changing needs, with laser-like focus on creating sustainable businesses that benefit humanity”.

Rob is joing CORE for the the first CORE Connect session of the year on Thursday 26 May. We asked him what he is looking forward to discussing with the community, “the technology itself and the value proposition of the autonomous road trains can and will bring to the mining industry. It’s huge and being a world first it is exciting to explore and discuss with likeminded people. I’m also looking forward to hearing all the questions from the audience”.
